Kano State has maintained its leadership position in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as authorities intensify efforts to expand voter enrollment across the state’s three senatorial districts ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
This development emerged during a strategic meeting of the Kano State Task Force Committee on the Mobilization of Voter Registration held on June 11, 2026, at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs. The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, and attended by members of the committee alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The gathering reviewed the progress recorded in the ongoing voter registration exercise and deliberated on strategies to sustain the momentum in the remaining weeks of the third and final phase of the nationwide registration exercise.
Kano first

Participants expressed satisfaction with the achievements recorded so far, noting that Kano currently ranks first among states in the country in terms of voter registration figures, particularly in the category of physical registration. The feat was attributed to sustained public enlightenment campaigns and coordinated mobilization efforts carried out across communities, educational institutions and other strategic sectors.
To consolidate the gains achieved, the committee, in collaboration with INEC, finalized arrangements for a large-scale voter registration mobilization campaign targeting eligible residents across the three senatorial zones of the state.
According to the committee, the rotational registration exercise is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in designated locations, including Wudil, Bichi and Kano Central, among other communities across the state.
The committee emphasized that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to deepen democratic participation and encourage greater civic engagement, particularly among youths and students, while ensuring that all eligible residents are adequately captured in the voter register.
Speaking on the importance of the exercise, the committee urged citizens who have attained the age of 18 years and are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity to obtain their voter registration and participate actively in the country’s democratic process.
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all stakeholders involved in the exercise to ensure a seamless, inclusive and transparent voter registration process.
The government further called on eligible residents across the state, especially students and young people, to embrace the exercise and secure their voting rights ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The resolutions of the meeting were contained in a statement signed by Comrade Adamu Abubakar Rano, Chairman of the Publicity and Media Sub-Committee of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Mobilization of Voter Registration.
