Northern Nigeria is expected to experience a mix of sunny conditions and thunderstorms on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as seasonal rains continue across the region, according to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
The forecast shows that most northern states will begin the day with sunny skies and scattered cloud cover, with early morning chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa States.
By afternoon and evening, NiMet predicts a stronger build-up of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall across much of the North
The pattern reflects the peak of the rainy season in the region, when warm morning temperatures often give way to convective storms later in the day.
Residents are advised to expect sudden weather changes, including rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds, particularly in open and rural communities.

NiMet explained that while the morning hours may feel calm and hot in several northern cities, atmospheric conditions are favorable for storm development as the day progresses.
Central Nigeria is also expected to experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine, alongside early morning thunderstorms in some areas such as the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kwara States.
Widespread rainfall is then expected later in the day across the region.
In the southern parts of the country, cloudy conditions with light morning rains are expected before heavier rainfall spreads in the afternoon and evening.
Authorities have urged residents across all regions to take safety precautions, especially in flood-prone communities.
They advised people to avoid standing under trees or near electricity poles during thunderstorms and to ensure cautious movement during heavy rainfall
The agency also advised airlines and transport operators to obtain regular weather updates for safe operations as visibility may reduce during rainfall periods.
