The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Chief Executive Officer of GDF Home Sales Enterprises Ltd, Bilal Muhammad, before the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N500,000 fraud involving the purchase of a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep.
Muhammad was brought before Justice Amina Mustapha Ibrahim on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.
According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly collected N500,000 from Adamu Abubakar in April 2025 under the pretext of purchasing a tricycle on his behalf. The anti-graft agency stated that the representation was false and made with the intention of defrauding the complainant.
The commission said the alleged offence contravenes the provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.
One of the charges alleged that Muhammad, while acting as CEO of GDF Home Sales Enterprises Ltd, obtained the money in Maiduguri by falsely claiming it was meant for the purchase of a tricycle, a claim investigators said he knew to be untrue.
When the charges were read to him in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty.
Following the plea, prosecution counsel A.D. Abdulmalik requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the hearing of the case.
Justice Ibrahim subsequently adjourned the matter until June 22, 2026, for the commencement of trial. The court also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The arraignment forms part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to combat fraud, protect members of the public from financial scams, and promote accountability in business transactions.
The case is expected to continue later this month as prosecutors seek to establish the allegations against the defendant before the court.
