
The First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin, today attended the commissioning of the new headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja, describing the landmark project as a symbol of the enduring partnership between West Africa and the People’s Republic of China.
The state-of-the-art headquarters, constructed and donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, reflects the shared commitment of ECOWAS and China to regional cooperation, peace, and sustainable development.
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON.

The ceremony was attended by the President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Julius Maada Bio, alongside the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Commissioners, ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests.
Speaking after the event, Senator Barau reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the ECOWAS Parliament to fostering greater unity among the peoples of West Africa while strengthening strategic international partnerships that will promote regional integration, peace, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
He emphasized that the inauguration of the new headquarters represents a renewed vision for a stronger, more united ECOWAS capable of addressing common challenges and advancing the collective aspirations of the sub-region.
