FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) ABOUT DSP BARAU I. JIBRIN… AND THEIR ANSWERS

By Sufyan Lawal Kabo

“Leadership is not measured by the number of speeches a politician delivers, but by the number of lives positively impacted by his time in office. While some leaders leave behind promises, others leave behind footprints. Those footprints naturally provoke curiosity, inspire admiration and raise questions. Over the years, I have been asked countless questions about Distinguished Senator Barau I. Jibrin. These questions come not only from people in Kano North, but also from friends, colleagues, political observers and even critics across Nigeria who genuinely want to understand the secret behind his leadership style. Rather than answering them one after another, I decided to compile the most frequently asked questions and share my perspective.”

The Questions People Frequently Ask

Why is Senator Barau always associated with major developmental projects?

How does he attract projects that many lawmakers seem unable to attract?

Does he have access to special sources of funding?

Why does he rarely engage in media publicity despite his achievements?

What makes his scholarship programme different?

Why do many people describe him as a strategic and result oriented leader?

Why has he remained politically relevant for so many years?

What explains his popularity among young people?

Is his success a matter of luck, or is there a deliberate philosophy behind it?

The Answers

WHY IS SENATOR BARAU ALWAYS ASSOCIATED WITH MAJOR DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS?

This is undoubtedly the question I receive more than any other.

My answer is usually straightforward. Senator Barau does not operate under a different Constitution, nor does he receive a different national budget from other lawmakers. Like every Senator, he works within the same legal and institutional framework.

What many people believe distinguishes him is his understanding of representation. He appears to see every federal project, institution and intervention as something his constituency has a legitimate right to pursue, not a favour to wait for. That mindset naturally leads to relentless engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies, sustained follow up, strategic negotiations and the determination to ensure that Kano North receives its fair share of federal opportunities.

To him, representation goes beyond sponsoring motions or attending plenary sessions. It also means identifying the real needs of the people, pursuing practical solutions and ensuring that government policies and projects translate into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

DOES HE HAVE ANOTHER SOURCE OF MONEY?

This is another question that comes up repeatedly.

The simple answer is no.

There is no evidence that Senator Barau operates with a special source of public funds unavailable to other lawmakers. The difference, many supporters argue, lies in how effectively he identifies available opportunities, mobilises institutional support, follows due process and ensures that approved projects are implemented.

In other words, they attribute his achievements more to persistence, planning and effective representation than to privilege.

WHAT MAKES HIS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME DIFFERENT?

Education has remained one of Senator Barau’s most visible areas of intervention.

Through the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation and related initiatives, thousands of students from Kano North have received scholarships in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Beyond that, many beneficiaries have also been sponsored for postgraduate studies abroad in specialised fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Robotics, Data Science and Forensic Science.

What makes these programmes particularly significant is that they prepare young Nigerians for careers in emerging technologies and the knowledge driven global economy. For many families, these scholarships have opened doors that would otherwise have remained closed.

WHY DO MANY PEOPLE DESCRIBE HIM AS A STRATEGIC LEADER?

Because every successful intervention begins with understanding people’s priorities.

A community battling unemployment requires different solutions from one struggling with poor infrastructure or inadequate educational opportunities. Many supporters believe Senator Barau has consistently demonstrated the ability to identify those priorities and pursue interventions that address them.

His facilitation of educational institutions, infrastructure projects, youth empowerment programmes and security related initiatives reflects what many describe as a leadership style focused on long term development rather than short term political headlines.

WHY DOES HE RARELY TALK IN THE MEDIA?

Every politician communicates differently.

Some prefer constant interviews and media appearances. Others allow their work to speak for itself.

Senator Barau appears to belong to the second category. His supporters often say, “He does the work, while others tell the story.” Whether one agrees with that assessment or not, many people associate his name more with completed projects than with frequent media engagements.

In a nutshell, he does the work, we do the talking!

WHY HAS HE REMAINED POLITICALLY RELEVANT?

In politics, winning one election can be achieved through popularity. Remaining relevant across multiple election cycles requires much more.

It demands consistency, accessibility, public confidence and sustained engagement with the people.

Since becoming Senator for Kano North in 2015, Senator Barau has secured re election and steadily risen to become the Deputy President of the Senate. To many observers, that progression reflects years of building trust through continuous interaction with constituents and visible development efforts.

CONCLUSION

Senator Barau I. Jibrin is not a saint. He is a human being, and like every human being, he is not without limitations. Yet, what many people believe distinguishes him is his unwavering sense of purpose, strategic thinking, resilience, humility, listening ear, commitment to education, passion for youth empowerment and relentless determination to ensure that Kano North and Kano State receive their fair share of national development. To many of his supporters, leadership is not measured by titles but by impact, and not by promises but by results.

Perhaps that explains why discussions about Senator Barau now extend far beyond Kano North. Across Kano State and even beyond, many people see in him a leader whose political journey has been defined by consistency, visible performance and a genuine commitment to public service. It is also why many of his supporters openly express the hope of seeing him attain even greater responsibilities in the years ahead, first as the President of the Senate, then as the Governor of Kano State and, if Allah wills and the Nigerian people so decide, one day as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Whether those aspirations eventually become reality rests with Almighty Allah, the Nigerian electorate and the course of history. What remains beyond dispute is that Senator Barau I. Jibrin has earned a reputation that inspires confidence, commands respect and continues to generate genuine curiosity about the leadership principles behind his remarkable political journey.
