
The Coalition of Young Imams of Juma’at Mosques in Northern Nigeria (CYIJMNN) has honoured the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, PhD, with the prestigious title of “GWANI.”
The honour was conferred on the Commissioner during a special gathering held in connection with the Khatamatul Qur’an (Qur’an Completion) ceremony at the Conference Hall of the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, Kano.
Speaking at the occasion, Commissioner Waiya expressed his appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a great honour as well as a responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the activities and positive initiatives of the Coalition.
Commissioner Waiya urged the young Imams to intensify their efforts in educating and guiding members of the public against the politics of abuse, character assassination and thuggery.
He stressed the need for religious leaders to use their influence to promote peace, unity, tolerance and responsible citizenship, particularly among young people.
According to him, Imams and Islamic scholars have enormous influence in society, noting that their voices are respected not only by ordinary citizens but also by political and community leaders.
He therefore called on the Imams to use their platforms to encourage peaceful political participation, moral discipline, tolerance and constructive engagement, especially among the youth.
In their remarks, members of the Coalition expressed appreciation for Commissioner Waiya’s consistent support, encouragement and accessibility.
They acknowledged his readiness to support the Coalition and his commitment to its various activities and programmes.
The Imams described the Commissioner’s support as a source of encouragement, stressing that his commitment demonstrates his recognition of the important role religious leaders play in promoting peace, unity and positive values in society.
The Coalition also commended Commissioner Waiya for maintaining a cordial relationship with religious leaders and for his willingness to engage with them on issues affecting society.
They described the relationship as one built on mutual respect, cooperation and a shared commitment to societal development.
Commissioner Waiya assured the Coalition of his continued readiness to support its positive initiatives, while emphasizing the importance of collaboration between religious leaders and government in addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable development in Kano State and Northern Nigeria.
