*…His political moves, strategic calculations and mobilisation expertise are presenting political observers with a compelling spectacle.*

In every democratic society, there are leaders who rise to the highest positions of power, including presidents who govern nations while raising families of their own. Many of their children are highly educated, having attended some of the best universities around the world. Some remain largely behind the scenes, appearing only at ceremonial events while concentrating on their professional careers and other ventures. Others, however, develop a keen interest in politics and choose to support their parents by helping to protect, promote and advance their political interests through strategic planning, mobilisation and grassroots engagement.
While many prefer to pursue careers outside the turbulent waters of politics, a select few have distinguished themselves by demonstrating humility, loyalty and a genuine commitment to their parents’ political success. Their education, strategic thinking and understanding of the complexities of political engagement have earned them admiration and commendation, leaving political observers both impressed and intrigued by their activities.
One such individual who has attracted considerable attention is Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Widely regarded by his supporters as an intelligent, well-connected and charismatic young man, Seyi has continued to attract attention through his involvement in political mobilisation. Beyond the advantages associated with his family background, one aspect of his public image that has endeared him to many admirers is his perceived humility, approachable disposition and ability to engage with people across different social classes.
Driven by a strong conviction and a desire to see his father succeed, Seyi Tinubu has embraced political mobilisation as an avenue through which he can contribute to the advancement of his father’s political agenda. Since the 2023 general election, which brought President Tinubu to power, he has remained associated with efforts to strengthen support for the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Through political engagements, meetings, advocacy and mobilisation activities, he has sought to communicate the administration’s agenda, consolidate existing support and attract new followers to the party.
As preparations for the next general election gather momentum, Seyi has continued to expand his political engagement through the City Boy Movement, a platform that has attracted attention for its youth-oriented mobilisation strategy and growing national presence. Under his leadership, the movement has established structures across the country, with zonal and state coordinators working to extend its reach and strengthen its organisational capacity.
The movement has attracted a diverse collection of participants, including politicians, youth groups, public office holders, grassroots mobilizes, social media influencers, actors, actresses, musicians, professionals and other prominent media personalities. Its appeal across different regions of the country has contributed to its growing visibility, with its activities attracting both public interest and political commentary.
Seyi Tinubu’s supporters believe that the movement’s growing profile reflects his ability to identify capable individuals and bring them together under a common political objective. Through meetings, consultations, strategic planning and grassroots engagements, the organisation has continued to build its presence in different parts of the federation. Reports and accounts associated with its activities have also highlighted empowerment initiatives, including the distribution of vehicles and motorcycles, support for entrepreneurs, provision of business equipment and financial assistance, as well as contributions towards community development projects such as schools.
Such initiatives, where effectively implemented and sustained, can help strengthen community relationships and expand the reach of a political organisation. For supporters of the City Boy Movement, these activities represent an attempt to combine political mobilisation with practical engagement at the grassroots level.
The growing political profile of the movement and the personalities associated with it have provided analysts with much to discuss. Its supporters see it as an emerging platform capable of attracting a significant number of Nigerian youths to President Tinubu and the APC. However, the movement’s long-term political significance will ultimately depend on its organisational discipline, sustained grassroots engagement and ability to translate public enthusiasm into measurable electoral support.
The expansion of such a structure does not come about by accident. It requires coordination, consultation, leadership and the ability to bring together individuals with different backgrounds and political interests. Seyi’s supporters credit him with assembling a network of coordinators and influential figures whose experience, community relationships and humanitarian activities could strengthen the movement’s grassroots appeal. Their established connections and records of community engagement may also help the organisation reach people beyond the circles of conventional political elites.
Through the City Boy Movement, Seyi Tinubu is seeking to establish himself as a significant figure in political mobilisation and as a prominent link between the President and a broad network of supporters. His admirers regard his efforts as evidence of commitment, strategic thinking and a willingness to participate actively in the political process rather than remain a distant observer.
Nevertheless, one of the most revealing aspects of Seyi’s political journey is the question of loyalty, patience and personal ambition. Many Nigerians will recall previous discussions and speculation surrounding calls by some supporters for him to contest the governorship of Lagos State. Those conversations generated considerable political interest, with observers debating whether he might eventually pursue the position with the backing of his influential father.
When the time came for the ruling political establishment to settle on its preferred direction, President Tinubu maintained his political focus on Lagos and supported the emergence of the incumbent Deputy Governor as the party’s governorship candidate. Seyi did not emerge as the candidate, and the episode became another subject of discussion among political observers.
For his admirers, the episode underscores the importance of understanding political timing, respecting party decisions and recognising that personal ambition must sometimes give way to broader political calculations. Rather than making the Lagos governorship question the centre of his public political identity, Seyi has continued to concentrate on the City Boy Movement and its mobilisation activities.
The development also offers an opportunity to reflect on the dynamics of political families, where loyalty, sacrifice and strategic calculations can influence the direction of individual ambitions. In politics, not every aspiration must be pursued immediately, and not every opportunity must be seized at the expense of a larger objective.
Seyi’s present political activities suggest that he is focused on building a national mobilisation platform while supporting his father’s political agenda. Whether this approach will translate into a more prominent personal political role in the years ahead remains a matter for time and political developments to determine.
For now, his supporters are concentrating on the immediate objective of strengthening the City Boy Movement and mobilising support for President Tinubu and the APC ahead of the next general election. They believe that the movement’s expanding network, its engagement with young people and its connections across different communities could make it an important component of the broader re-election campaign.
The eventual outcome, however, will depend on several factors, including the performance of the administration, the effectiveness of the campaign organisation, the strength of competing political forces and the choices Nigerian voters ultimately make.
What is increasingly clear is that Seyi Tinubu has become a subject of political discussion beyond his identity as the President’s son. Through his association with the City Boy Movement, he is seeking to establish a distinct profile in political mobilisation and organisation. His supporters consider this an important contribution to the political future they envision for the President and the ruling party.
As the next election approaches, the City Boy Movement will face the task of demonstrating that its growing visibility can be sustained through effective organisation, credible engagement and meaningful participation at the grassroots. Its ability to convert enthusiasm into a durable political structure will be a crucial test of its strength.
For Seyi Tinubu, the immediate challenge is to maintain the momentum, consolidate the movement’s national presence and demonstrate that his mobilisation strategy can stand the test of a competitive electoral environment. His supporters remain confident that his commitment, organisational drive and network of political allies will continue to strengthen the movement.
In the final analysis, Seyi Tinubu’s political journey is a developing story of family loyalty, personal ambition, youth mobilisation and the pursuit of political influence. Through the City Boy Movement, he is positioning himself as an increasingly visible participant in Nigeria’s political landscape, with his sights firmly set on supporting his father’s re-election ambition.
