Waiya Reaffirms Kano Government’s Commitment to Community-Led Security, Peacebuilding

The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government to strengthening partnerships with community-based organisations in promoting security, peace, and sustainable development across the state.

Waiya made the pledge on Sunday during a visit to the office of Gyara Kayanka, a grassroots community development organisation in Kumbotso Local Government Area that supports government efforts in enhancing security, promoting peaceful coexistence, and resolving community-related challenges across Kano State.

Prior to the visit, the commissioner held an extensive interactive meeting with leaders of Gyara Kayanka representing the 44 local government areas of the state. The meeting provided a platform for robust discussions on strengthening collaboration between government and community organisations in addressing security concerns and other socio-economic challenges affecting local communities.

Speaking during the engagement, Waiya said the meeting formed part of the ministry’s ongoing stakeholder engagement initiative aimed at fostering dialogue, strengthening partnerships, and promoting inclusive community participation in governance.

“This engagement is part of our broader programme of sustained consultations and strategic collaboration on issues that promote community development, particularly the promotion of peace and social harmony,” he said.

The commissioner noted that the administration of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf remains firmly committed to deepening community participation in governance by supporting organisations whose activities complement government efforts to promote peace, strengthen security, and accelerate socio-economic development across the state.

According to him, community-driven initiatives have become increasingly vital in addressing emerging security challenges, preventing conflicts, and fostering lasting peace at the grassroots level.

Waiya commended the leadership and members of Gyara Kayanka for their unwavering dedication to community service, describing the organisation as a dependable partner in advancing public safety, unity, and social stability throughout Kano State.

He assured the organisation of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs’ continued support for programmes and initiatives that promote peace, strengthen community cohesion, and contribute to the overall development of the state.

The visit underscores the Kano State Government’s resolve to deepen collaboration with community-based organisations as part of a broader strategy to enhance public participation, improve community security, and consolidate lasting peace and sustainable development across Kano State.
