The Kano State Chairman of the Northern Youths Assembly (NYA), Comrade Abdu Saidu, has commended the state government for awarding contracts worth N27.8 billion for the construction of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state’s 44 local government areas.
The project is aimed at taking digital examination facilities and ICT opportunities closer to residents at the grassroots.
In a statement released to journalists on Thursday, Saidu described the initiative as a major investment in digital education and youth development, saying it would expand access to computer-based examinations, e-learning and digital skills across the state.
He said the establishment of the centres in all the 44 local government areas would help bridge the digital gap between urban and rural communities.
According to him, the initiative would also make it easier for students and other residents to access computer-based examinations and digital services without travelling long distances.
“Providing ICT facilities across all the 44 local government areas will give our youths access to computer education and other digital skills,” he said.
Saidu said the project would provide young people with greater opportunities to acquire practical computer and technology skills.
He added that the centres could serve as platforms for e-learning, digital training, computer-based examinations and other technology-related activities.
The NYA chairman said improved access to ICT infrastructure would help young people acquire relevant skills needed to function effectively in an increasingly technology-driven society.
He also said providing youths with opportunities to acquire useful skills and engage in productive activities would contribute to peace, stability and socio-economic development in the state.
Saidu commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as a “forward-looking initiative”, saying taking ICT infrastructure and digital examination facilities to the grassroots would make technology more accessible to thousands of young people across Kano.
He expressed optimism that the N27.8 billion ICT and CBT project would strengthen digital literacy among Kano youths, expand access to technology and prepare them for meaningful participation in the digital economy.
