Politics is not merely about occupying public office or appearing in the headlines. It is fundamentally about service, loyalty, consistency, sacrifice, and a genuine commitment to the collective interest of the people. Throughout history, political movements and parties have survived and thrived because dedicated individuals invested their time, resources, and energy in building strong structures capable of advancing their shared vision.
In Kano State, as in every democratic society, political stability and party unity remain essential ingredients for effective governance. The success of any administration depends not only on the quality of its leadership but also on the sincerity and discipline of those entrusted with responsibilities within government and political institutions. Unfortunately, there are occasions when some individuals place personal ambition above collective progress, creating unnecessary tensions that threaten the unity painstakingly built over time.
One of the greatest challenges facing political organizations today is the emergence of individuals who seek relevance through controversy rather than contribution. Such individuals often attempt to portray themselves as defenders of unity and progress while their actions suggest otherwise. Rather than working quietly and diligently to strengthen institutions, they focus on self-promotion, political maneuvering, and creating divisions within established structures.
Political relevance is not something that can be imposed upon the people through media appearances, public statements, or political grandstanding. It is earned through years of dedication, consistency, loyalty, and service. Those who have spent decades building political movements, supporting party structures, and standing firm during difficult times deserve recognition and respect. Their sacrifices laid the foundation upon which current political successes are built.
It is therefore troubling when some individuals attempt to rewrite political history or present themselves as indispensable figures despite having contributed little to the struggles and sacrifices that shaped the present political landscape. Such behavior not only undermines the efforts of genuine party loyalists but also creates unnecessary confusion among supporters and stakeholders.
Kano first

Within the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, expectations are understandably high. The people of Kano voted for governance that prioritizes development, accountability, transparency, and the welfare of ordinary citizens. Every public official and political appointee has a responsibility to support these objectives by focusing on the duties assigned to them. Public office should never be viewed as a platform for personal political battles or self-serving agendas.
The people of Kano are more concerned about improved education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic opportunities, and security than they are about internal political disputes. Citizens expect public officials to devote their energy to solving problems and delivering results rather than engaging in activities that distract from the core responsibilities of government.
Political hypocrisy becomes particularly dangerous when individuals preach unity while simultaneously promoting division. True unity requires sincerity, honesty, and mutual respect. It demands the willingness to place the interests of the party and the people above personal ambition. Those who genuinely believe in unity work to bring people together, resolve differences, and strengthen institutions. They do not exploit disagreements for personal gain or attempt to create parallel centers of influence.
Furthermore, leadership is not determined by titles alone. Genuine leadership is measured by character, credibility, competence, and the ability to inspire confidence among the people. Respect cannot be demanded; it must be earned through actions that demonstrate commitment to public service and the common good.
As concerned stakeholders committed to the progress of Kano and the continued growth of democratic governance, we must remain vigilant against actions capable of undermining political stability. Constructive criticism is an essential component of democracy, but political opportunism disguised as advocacy serves no useful purpose. The focus should remain on strengthening institutions, promoting unity, and supporting policies that improve the lives of citizens.
History has consistently shown that political actors who place personal interests above collective goals ultimately lose the trust and confidence of the people. In contrast, those who remain steadfast, loyal, and committed to service leave lasting legacies that endure long after political offices have changed hands.
This article is therefore a call for reflection among all political actors, particularly those serving within government and party structures. The task before us is greater than individual ambition. Kano deserves leaders and stakeholders who are committed to progress, stability, and responsible governance.
Political unity cannot be sustained through hypocrisy, manipulation, or opportunism. It must be built upon trust, sincerity, loyalty, and a shared commitment to the welfare of the people. Those seeking relevance should understand that lasting influence comes not from noise or controversy but from meaningful contributions to society and unwavering dedication to the public good.
As Kano continues its journey toward greater development and prosperity, all stakeholders must work together to protect the unity of purpose that brought about political change. The future belongs not to those who divide but to those who build, unite, and serve with integrity.
