KSCHMA Honours Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as “Champion of Workers Progress,” Highlights AbbaCare Impact
The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has honoured Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his commitment to workers’ welfare and inclusive healthcare delivery in the state.
The award, titled “Champion of Workers Progress,” was presented during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.
The recognition reflects the growing impact of the Governor’s AbbaCare Programme, a flagship healthcare initiative providing free medication and comprehensive care for individuals living with sickle cell anaemia. The programme has helped ease financial burdens on patients while improving access to treatment across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, said the programme has recorded significant expansion and measurable results. According to her, AbbaCare has increased service coverage across healthcare facilities, improved the availability of essential drugs, and strengthened care coordination for beneficiaries.
She added that the initiative has led to fewer health crises, reduced hospital admissions, and a noticeable decline in out-of-pocket spending by affected families. Increased public awareness has also encouraged more people to enrol and seek early care.
Dr. Muktar described the programme as a major step toward protecting vulnerable groups, noting that it aligns with the state’s broader goal of achieving universal health coverage.
A symbolic highlight of the event saw beneficiaries of the programme, particularly those living with sickle cell anaemia, parade before the governor to express their appreciation for the support received.
KSCHMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining and expanding healthcare programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents across Kano State.
