The Federal Government has stated that Nigeria has entered a new phase of reform and development under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging international media organizations to present a balanced and factual narrative about the country.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a special interactive session with foreign journalists in Abuja.
According to the minister, Nigeria’s economy recorded a growth rate of 3.87 percent in 2025, marking the first time in nearly a decade that economic expansion has outpaced population growth.
He explained that key reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and adjustments to the foreign exchange system, have significantly boosted government revenues, which are now being redirected toward infrastructure development and improving citizens’ welfare.
Idris highlighted several major achievements of the administration, including:
The introduction of student loan schemes through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Strengthening national security through enhanced intelligence gathering and surveillance systems.
Ongoing efforts toward the establishment of state policing to improve local security governance.
Increased investment in agriculture and technology aimed at job creation, particularly for young people.
Also speaking, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, noted that Nigeria has moved beyond a phase of uncertainty and is now focused on ensuring that citizens begin to experience the tangible benefits of ongoing reforms.
Similarly, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, emphasized that Nigeria is not merely keeping pace with other African economies but is positioning itself to become a continental leader in trade and industrialization.
In his closing remarks, Idris called on international media practitioners to report Nigeria’s story with accuracy and fairness.
“We want our successes and our challenges to be reported together, as that is the only way to present a true picture of Nigeria,” he said.
The session was attended by key government officials, including Bayo Onanuga, Sunday Dare, and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, all of whom play significant roles in the administration’s communications and media strategy.
