Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has tasked Senior Special Reporters (SSR) and Special Reporters (SR) to understand their roles and report activities of his administration promptly.
The Governor charged the SSR’s and SR’s on Monday, during a 4-day capacity training workshop, organised by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs in collaboration with International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Abuja and Ausam Communications Ltd.
He said their roles was to bridge the gap of communication between the government and the general public.
The Governor who was represented at the event by the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullah Musa, said his administration appointed them in order to convey activities of the government to the general public about the good work of the administration.
The training program with the theme, “Updating Mass Communication Skills for Enhanced Government Communication” was organised to enhance the capacity of the participants.
Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, whose ministry organised the training, said the state government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has invested so much in capacity building.
He said, the workshop aims at enhancing the skills of the special reporters on effective government communication, promoting accurate information dissemination, and strengthening media-government relations.
He said, the administration of Gov. Abba Kabir has committed a lot of resources to develop capabilities of various staff of the ministry and the special reporters to further enhance the image of Kano State.
The initiative, according to the Commissioner underscores the importance of capacity building in the media sector, particularly in government communication, to ensure effective information delivery to the public.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adamu Bala Usman said the workshop was aimed at supporting the special reporters to understand their roles in communicating government activities to the public.
Dr. Emman Usman Shehu, Director of IIJ, said the training was a welcome development and the institution is always willing to support and collaborate and partner with the state government.
Chief Executive of Ausam Communications Ltd. Malam Auwal Sa’id Mu’azu on his part said, the training idea was conceived to enhance the capacity of the participants and therefore charged the participants to pay attention to the lessons of the workshop.
