Gov. Yusuf Reaffirms Education Priority, Commends Al-Istiqama University’s Impact

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed that education remains the number one priority of his administration, stressing that his government will continue to invest in the sector as a fundamental driver of human capital development and sustainable progress.

The Governor stated this on Saturday at the 2nd and 3rd Combined Convocation Ceremony of Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, where a total of 1,101 students were conferred with various degrees.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, in Kano on Saturday.

Governor Yusuf explained that the importance his administration attaches to education was reflected in the 2026 budget, in which the education sector received the largest allocation.

He commended Al-Istiqama University for its significant contribution to the advancement of education, particularly in providing opportunities for young people to acquire knowledge and develop their capabilities.

The Governor stated that there has been cordial relationship between the Kano State Government and the university, assuring the institution of his administration’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the existing partnership for the benefit of education and the people of the state.

He congratulated the graduating students on the successful completion of their studies and urged them to pursue further learning and deepen their knowledge, stressing that continuous education and personal development are essential for achieving a meaningful and productive life.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf encouraged the graduants to translate the knowledge and values acquired during their studies into positive contributions to their communities and the wider society.

In his remarks, the Founder and Proprietor of Al-Istiqama University, Senator representing Kano South, Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, highlighted the remarkable progress recorded by the institution since its establishment.

He explained that the vision behind establishing the university was to provide quality, faith-based and accessible education that produces graduates equipped with knowledge and good character.

Senator Sumaila expressed appreciation to the university’s stakeholders, staff, students and supporters for their contributions to the institution’s growth and development.

As part of the convocation ceremony, three illustrious sons of Kano State—Alhaji Abdulmumini Mai Shanu (A.Y. Shafa), Malam Ibrahim Khalil and the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata—were conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees in recognition of their contributions and accomplishments.

The Governor congratulated the honorary degree recipients and the graduating students, wishing them continued success in their respective endeavours.

Signed:
