The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy 10,000 electric tricycles across Nigeria as part of efforts to improve public transportation, reduce transportation costs, and promote cleaner energy solutions.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the Transporters for Tinubu/Shettima 2027 to the Presidential Villa, where government officials outlined key transportation initiatives aimed at easing mobility for Nigerians.
According to the disclosure, the first phase of the programme will see the distribution of 10,000 electric tricycles by the North East Development Commission in August 2026. The initiative will primarily serve the North-East region, with plans to extend its benefits to other parts of the country.
The government further revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the expansion of the programme nationwide through the various regional development commissions.

The electric tricycle initiative is expected to create employment opportunities, enhance access to affordable transportation, and support the country’s transition towards environmentally friendly transportation systems.
Stakeholders in the transport sector have welcomed the development, describing it as a significant step toward modernizing Nigeria’s public transport network while reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
Brown Pigeon News will continue to monitor developments surrounding the implementation of the programme and its impact on communities across the country.
