

The Young Female Professionals in Media (YFPM), a Non Governmental Organization of dynamic female media practitioners, recently paid a strategic advocacy visit to the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs. The delegation was warmly received by the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya
The visit was aimed at fostering collaboration and securing institutional support for inclusive media development, capacity building and ethical journalism—particularly for young women in the media space.
Key Highlights of the Engagement:
– Capacity building and training: The Ministry expressed interest in supporting training programs that will empower young female journalists with the skills and professionalism needed in today’s multi media practice
– Media Space Reform: Commissioner Waiya emphasized the need for responsible journalism and reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to work with credible media groups like YFPM, to sanitize and professionalize the media space
– Partnership and Collaboration – Both parties discussed the possibility of establishing a strategic partnership to drive a tangible collaboration in advocacy, media literacy and enhanced gender inclusion in media practice
Speaking on behalf of YFPM, the Secretary of the association, Maryam Usman Nagado appreciated the warm reception and hospitality of the Ministry. She emphasized YFPM’s commitment to amplifying female voices in media and promoting ethical standards through innovation and collaboration.
The visit marks a significant step in YFPM’s mission to build bridges between young women in media and public institutions — advancing progress, professionalism, and inclusion in the Northern Nigerian media space.
