The Kebbi State Government has received 45 motorcycles from development partners, including UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to enhance the monitoring and delivery of healthcare services across the state.
The donation was announced during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where the UNICEF Country Representative in Nigeria, Wafaa Saeed, commended the state government for its sustained investment in healthcare and social welfare.
She noted that Kebbi State’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, including widows, reflects a leadership approach grounded in compassion and inclusive governance.
Speaking on public health progress, Saeed recalled that Nigeria was declared free of the wild poliovirus in 2020. She emphasized that Kebbi now has a critical opportunity to lead efforts in eliminating vaccine-derived polio by strengthening immunization campaigns, improving coordination at the local government level, and engaging traditional and religious leaders more effectively.
The motorcycles are expected to improve outreach services, particularly in hard-to-reach communities, enabling health workers to monitor programs more efficiently and ensure better healthcare delivery across the state.
Officials from partner organizations, including WHO, reiterated their commitment to supporting Kebbi State in achieving its healthcare goals, especially in disease prevention and primary healthcare strengthening.
