The Kano State APC Students Stakeholders Forum has declared its total support for the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made on Friday when members of the Forum paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in his office.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Abdulrahman Bala, said the decision to support Governor Yusuf was unanimous and driven by the development-oriented projects being implemented by his administration across the state.
Bala particularly commended the administration for its attention to the education sector, noting that significant interventions have been recorded from basic to tertiary levels.
He said Kano students had a responsibility to support the Governor to enable him to consolidate and sustain the achievements recorded by his administration.
The Chairman also announced that the Forum would soon embark on a statewide media tour across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State to document projects executed by the administration and sensitise the public on its achievements.
He, however, appealed to the state government to introduce more youth empowerment programmes to enable young people to become productive and self-reliant.
Responding, Commissioner Waiya commended the students for their decision to support Governor Yusuf’s second-term bid, describing it as a demonstration of their commitment to the progress and development of Kano State.
He assured the Forum of the Ministry’s readiness to work closely with it, particularly on issues concerning students and education, which he described as one of the cardinal priorities of the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration.
Waiya dismissed claims by critics that the government was unconcerned about the welfare of students in state-owned tertiary institutions, describing such allegations as baseless and misleading.
According to him, the government’s commitment to education is reflected in the 29.4 per cent budgetary allocation to the sector, the declaration of a state of emergency in education, and several special interventions aimed at improving the sector.
He listed some of the interventions to include subsidisation of school fees for students in the state, payment of millions of naira in NECO, WAEC and NBAIS examination fees, sponsorship of Kano students to study abroad, as well as the construction and renovation of schools to provide conducive learning environments for students and teachers.
“This government has initiated several education policies to ease the burden on students and parents. Kano students are still being sponsored abroad and have been benefiting from the programme. There has been no reversal,” the Commissioner stated.
Waiya urged the students to remain honest, patriotic and responsible ambassadors of Kano State wherever they find themselves, assuring them of the government’s continued support.
