The Katsina State Government has announced the unfortunate passing of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits who had abducted him.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government expressed deep sorrow over the tragic development, describing it as a monumental loss to Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.
According to the statement, the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity, despite sustained efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his freedom.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, noting that the incident represents a dark moment for the state and underscores the urgent need for intensified action against banditry and other forms of insecurity.
The governor reaffirmed the state’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the abduction and death of the retired general are brought to justice.
He also assured residents that the government’s determination to combat banditry and safeguard lives and property remains unwavering.
The Katsina State Government called on citizens to continue supporting security efforts and prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.
