President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two key ministers and the appointment of new officials to strategic portfolios.
The development was disclosed in an official memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
According to the statement, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, have been directed to step down from their positions.
In a swift replacement, Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to serve as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously held the position of Minister of State in the same ministry.
For the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate, pending necessary confirmations.
The memo further directed that all handing-over processes must be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume stated that the changes are designed to strengthen cohesion and synergy within the administration, while enhancing effective delivery of economic policies under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in making the changes.
President Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate governance will remain ongoing.
The statement was signed by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, on April 21, 2026.
