It is indeed amusing, disappointing, and, to some extent, shameful to watch a man whose political career has been widely criticized continue to attack Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf while struggling to convince the public with what many consider unsubstantiated arguments.
The genesis of the current political disagreement began when Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reportedly chose to distance himself from what his supporters described as the overbearing influence of the Kwankwasiyya leadership. Along with many loyal supporters, the Governor eventually aligned with the APC, believing it offered a more stable political future. Comrade Gwarzo, however, remained loyal to the Kwankwasiyya bloc and its leadership.
As political events unfolded, the government initiated legislative scrutiny over allegations of financial misconduct involving Gwarzo. According to public discussions at the time, the allegations centered on claims of financial impropriety. Gwarzo subsequently resigned from office, a move interpreted differently by both his supporters and critics.
Despite these controversies, he later emerged as the governorship candidate of the opposition. His critics argue that his political record, public image, and electoral performance do not present him as a formidable challenger.
Since securing his party’s ticket, Gwarzo has frequently appeared in media interviews criticizing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Among his claims is that the Governor’s administration is moving at a slow pace despite what supporters describe as numerous developmental achievements across the state. To many observers, such remarks appear politically motivated rather than objective.
He also alleged that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appears confused and overwhelmed by political pressure. However, supporters of the Governor strongly reject this characterization, insisting that he remains focused, energetic, confident, and committed to delivering good governance.
Equally surprising was Gwarzo’s assertion that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was never his superior and referred to him merely as a “boy.” Critics of Gwarzo argue that such comments are unnecessary and disrespectful, particularly considering their previous working relationship in government.
Ultimately, many believe that Gwarzo’s repeated media appearances have done little to convince voters about his own vision for Kano State. Rather than outlining concrete policies and programmes, he has devoted much of his time to criticizing the Governor. In politics, voters often expect candidates to present practical solutions instead of focusing primarily on personal attacks.
As the 2027 elections approach, many political observers believe that the contest will ultimately be decided by the electorate based on performance, vision, and credibility rather than rhetoric alone.
