
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned residents against creating and sharing false security-related information on social media, saying such actions can cause fear, panic, and public disorder.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Command assured residents that the security situation across the state remains calm and under control.

The police also confirmed the arrest of a suspect, Akaninyene Udo, popularly known online as “AK Philo,” over a viral post that allegedly contained a threatening message accompanied by an image of an armed bandit. The post reportedly caused widespread concern among residents of Eket and surrounding communities.
According to the Command, investigations have been concluded and the suspect will soon be charged to court. Efforts are also ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals linked to the circulation of the content.
The police urged members of the public to verify security-related information through official and credible sources before sharing it, warning that anyone found spreading fake news or unverified security alerts will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
