In his achievement Kano information commissioner shortlisted for 2026 spokespersons award.
Waiya, has been shortlisted as one of three finalists in the Crisis Communicator category of the 2026 National spokespersons Awards.
According to the statement, Waiya’s nomination was conveyed in a letter dated June 22, 2026, signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee of the National Spokespersons Awards, Segun Mcmedal.
The letter read in part, “Iam pleased to inform you that you have been selected as a finalist in the Crisis Communicator category of the national spokespersons Awards (NS Awards).
The statement noted that the awards, organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited, publishers of PR Nigeria and Spokespersons Digest, recognise excellence, integrity and impact in public communication.
It added that the Chairman of the 2026 Awards, Professor Saudat Abdulbaqi, announced 42 finalists across 16 categories after the completion of the first and second phases of the assessment process.
According to the organisers, the jury assessed shortlisted entries based on four criteria: impact, innovation and originality, reach, and quality of supporting evidence submitted.

The (Limamin Kano First) applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on his conferment with the Award of Excellence in Security Governance by the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS).
Waiya, in a good will message issued to mark the recognition, described the award as a well-deserved honour that reflects the Kano State Government’s commitment to strengthening security, protecting lives and property, promoting peace and creating an enabling environment for sustainable socio-economic development.
According to the Commissioner, the recognition “goes beyond celebrating the governor’s leadership, as it also acknowledges the government’s strategic approach to addressing security challenges in the state.”
“This distinguished recognition is not only a celebration of His Excellency’s leadership but also a commendation of the commitment, courage and strategic approach of the Kano State Government towards strengthening security, protecting lives and property, promoting peace, and creating an enabling environment for sustainable socio-economic development,” Waiya added.
He remarked that security remained a critical foundation for the development and prosperity of any society, noting that the Kano State Government has continued to support security agencies and other stakeholders in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
The commissioner said the award was particularly significant because it underscored the importance of political leadership in building a safe, peaceful and good governance.
Waiya also highlighted the government’s efforts to address the root causes of insecurity while encouraging greater community participation in crime prevention.
He maintained that security could not be achieved by government or security agencies alone, but required collective action from various sectors of society.
“Security is a shared responsibility requiring the collective efforts of government, security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society, the private sector, the media and citizens.
He said such recognition would encourage continuous improvement in security administration and inspire other political leaders to place the safety and welfare of citizens at the centre of governance.

He further praised the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies for its contribution to professional security education, strategic research, capacity development and stakeholder engagement.

Waiya reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to working with security institutions, professional bodies, academia, communities and other stakeholders to build a safer and more prosperous state.
Waiya also highlighted the government’s efforts to address the root causes of insecurity while encouraging greater community participation in crime preventions.
