ONE KANO AGENDA COMMENDS KANO STATE GOVERNMENT FOR APPROVING SAFE CORRIDOR PHASE III REHABILITATION PROJECT

COMMENDATION MESSAGE BY ONE KANO AGENDA

The One Kano Agenda wishes to express its profound appreciation and strong commendation to the Kano State Government under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the approval of the take-off of Phase III of the Safe Corridor Programme aimed at rehabilitating 1,000 repentant youths across the State.

The approval, which was granted during the 39th Executive Council Meeting held on 28th April 2026 at the Council Chamber, Government House Kano, demonstrates the administration’s commitment towards addressing the root causes of youth involvement in social vices, political thuggery, drug abuse, violence, and other criminal activities threatening peace and stability in society.

As an organization committed to peacebuilding, youth reorientation, social harmony, and the progress of Kano State, One Kano Agenda considers this initiative as one of the most strategic and transformative interventions introduced in recent times. The Safe Corridor Programme reflects a modern and humane approach to security and societal reform by prioritizing rehabilitation, skills acquisition, mentorship, and reintegration rather than condemnation and exclusion.

The approval of ₦626,000,000 for the continuation of the programme is a clear indication that the present administration understands the urgent need to rescue vulnerable youths from the streets and provide them with opportunities to become productive members of society. We firmly believe that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through force alone, but through empowerment, inclusion, education, and restoration of hope.

For decades, many young people popularly referred to as “Yan Daba” have been victims of unemployment, poverty, political manipulation, lack of parental guidance, drug addiction, and social neglect. Instead of abandoning them to hopelessness, the Kano State Government has chosen the path of rehabilitation, reconciliation, and reintegration. This is a courageous and commendable decision that deserves the support of all well-meaning citizens and stakeholders.

One Kano Agenda also notes that this initiative aligns with global best practices in conflict resolution and community peacebuilding, where governments focus on deradicalization, rehabilitation, vocational empowerment, and psychosocial support as tools for reducing violence and criminality.

We therefore call on:

* Community leaders,

* Religious scholars,

* Civil society organizations,

* Parents,

* Security agencies,

* Youth groups, and

* Development partners

to support the successful implementation of the Safe Corridor Programme for the collective peace and future of Kano State.

Furthermore, we urge the beneficiaries of the programme to embrace this opportunity with sincerity, discipline, and determination in order to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.

The One Kano Agenda remains fully committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, security, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across Kano State.

We pray for continued wisdom, strength, and success for the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as it continues to implement people-oriented policies and programmes for the betterment of Kano State.
