
The Kano State Government has inaugurated a State Committee to coordinate activities for the celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, inaugurated the committee on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Kano.
The committee will be chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ali Tsohon Rogo, and is expected to coordinate and oversee activities lined up to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Kano State.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Comrade Waiya described the establishment of the committee as an important step towards ensuring a well-organised, peaceful and successful celebration befitting the significance of Nigeria’s Independence Day.
He explained that the committee comprises representatives of key government agencies, security organisations and other relevant stakeholders, including the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Correctional Service, as well as various Civil Society Organisations.
The Commissioner charged members of the committee to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, commitment and a strong spirit of teamwork to ensure a hitch-free, befitting and inclusive celebration.
According to him, the Independence Anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, promote national unity, peaceful coexistence and renew their collective commitment towards the progress and development of the nation.
Comrade Waiya further called on the people of Kano State to support the committee and participate actively in activities lined up for the celebration, stressing that unity, patriotism and mutual understanding remain critical to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
He assured the committee of the Kano State Government’s full support towards ensuring the successful hosting of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
“This celebration should serve as an opportunity to strengthen our unity, promote peace and renew our commitment to the progress and development of our great nation,” the Commissioner stated.
