By Comrade Najeeb Nasir Ibrahim
The recognition of the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, with the prestigious Crisis Communicator Award at the 6th National Spokespersons Awards in Abuja is a commendable achievement that deserves to be celebrated.
This award is not merely a personal honour for the Commissioner; it is also a recognition of the importance of effective, responsible and timely communication in governance. In an era where misinformation, public anxiety and rapidly changing information can create unnecessary tension, the role of a government spokesperson has become increasingly critical.
Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya has demonstrated a strong understanding of this responsibility through his efforts to communicate government policies, clarify issues of public concern and provide information to the people of Kano State. His approach reflects the need for government communication to be clear, accessible, factual and responsive to the concerns of citizens.
The Crisis Communicator Award therefore represents an important acknowledgement of his commitment to public information management and strategic communication. It also demonstrates that effective communication is an essential component of good governance and public trust.
What makes this recognition particularly significant is that it comes from a national platform that brings together spokespersons, communication professionals, media practitioners and other stakeholders from across Nigeria. Being recognised on such a platform places another responsibility on the Commissioner to continue improving the standard of public communication.
The award should also be seen as a reflection of the wider efforts of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to strengthen communication and maintain engagement with the people.
As Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Waiya has a responsibility that goes beyond announcing government policies. He serves as an important bridge between government and citizens, especially when sensitive issues arise. His ability to communicate responsibly during periods of uncertainty or crisis is therefore essential to maintaining public confidence.
I warmly congratulate Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya on this well-deserved honour. His achievement is a source of pride not only to the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs but also to Kano State and its media and communication community.
The recognition should encourage him to do even more in promoting accurate information, constructive engagement and responsible communication between the government and the people.
Leadership is not only about making decisions; it is also about explaining those decisions, listening to citizens and building understanding. In this regard, the Crisis Communicator Award is a fitting recognition of Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya’s contribution to responsible public communication.
Congratulations, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya. This award is well deserved, and we wish you greater achievements in the service of Kano State and Nigeria.
