The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding electricity access across Nigeria through renewable energy projects, following the groundbreaking of three interconnected solar mini-grid projects in Adamawa State.
The projects include a 10-megawatt (MW) interconnected solar mini-grid in Kofare, a 2.6MW interconnected solar mini-grid in Saminaka, and an 890-kilowatt (kW) interconnected solar mini-grid in Mbamba. When completed, the facilities are expected to provide reliable electricity to thousands of residents, strengthen local businesses, stimulate economic activities, and improve livelihoods across the benefiting communities.
Speaking after the groundbreaking ceremony, Abba Aliyu described the projects as evidence that meaningful dialogue, strategic partnerships, and sustained collaboration can be transformed into tangible development that directly benefits Nigerians.
He noted that the projects were conceived following the REA State-by-State Roundtable held in Adamawa last year, where the agency brought together the state government and private sector investors to identify investment opportunities and strengthen confidence in the state’s renewable energy sector.
According to him, the successful commencement of the projects demonstrates that every productive engagement has the potential to unlock investments and deliver lasting socio-economic impact.
Aliyu also acknowledged the support of the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, for championing renewable energy initiatives and promoting interconnected mini-grids as a critical component of Nigeria’s evolving electricity system.
He further commended Mahashakti Nigeria Limited, the project developer, as well as the Adamawa State Government under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for their collaboration in bringing the projects to reality.
The REA boss emphasized that the agency’s mandate extends beyond deploying electricity infrastructure, stressing that it also focuses on creating an enabling environment for investment, building confidence among investors, and accelerating inclusive development across the country.
The projects form part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to deepen energy access, encourage private sector participation, and drive sustainable economic growth through clean and renewable energy solutions.
