The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has formally received the certificate of his Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration (Honoris Causa), an honour conferred on him by Al-Hikmah University during the institution’s 15th Convocation Ceremony held in January 2026.

The certificate was officially presented to Senator Barau at the National Assembly in Abuja by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji. According to the Vice-Chancellor, the prestigious honour was bestowed in recognition of the lawmaker’s outstanding contributions to national development, philanthropy, democratic governance, and public service.

Earlier this year, on January 7, Senator Barau delivered the university’s convocation lecture titled, “Managing Executive-Legislature Relations Towards Democratic Consolidation in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic,” where he shared his legislative experience and scholarly perspectives on strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Speaking after receiving the certificate, Senator Barau reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to advancing education in Nigeria. He emphasized that he would continue to support the sector through scholarships, grants for indigent students, and the provision of critical infrastructure to educational institutions across the country.

He noted that the recognition serves as an encouragement to deepen his investment in education, stressing that no effort is too great when it comes to developing human capital.

“Recognition of my efforts in this regard only spurs me to do more. Nothing is too much for the education sector. Human resources remain the cornerstone of societal progress,” Senator Barau stated.

The presentation of the honorary doctorate certificate further underscores the growing recognition of Senator Barau’s contributions to education, governance, and national development.
