The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to allow more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.

According to a press statement issued on 3 July 2026, the exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on 10 July 2026, has now been extended until 26 July 2026. The decision followed a review of the nationwide exercise and feedback from stakeholders.
INEC also unveiled a new online self-service registration platform for first-time voters. The service, which becomes available from 8 July 2026, will allow eligible Nigerians to begin and complete their voter registration process online, including biometric capture, through the Commission’s CVR portal.
The Commission urged all eligible citizens who are yet to register to take advantage of the extended registration period and the new technology-driven registration option to ensure they are included in the National Register of Voters.
