The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the process of removing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from its register of political parties following a Federal High Court judgment that set aside the earlier order compelling the commission to register the party.
According to INEC, it has applied for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court’s latest judgment and will act in accordance with the court’s directive once it receives the document.
Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja nullified the court’s December 10, 2025 judgment, ruling that the earlier decision adversely affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which was not joined in the original suit despite claiming ownership of the logo used in the NDC’s registration process.
Legal counsel to the PMP stated that the judgment effectively reverses all actions taken under the previous court order, including the issuance of the NDC’s registration certificate and its inclusion in INEC’s records, pending the determination of the substantive case.
The NDC has, however, rejected the ruling, insisting it remains a legally recognized political party and has announced plans to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.
