Kano, June 23, 2026 – The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone One Headquarters, Kano, AIG Garba Ahmed, has pledged the full support of the Nigeria Police Force to the Kano State Government’s Safe Corridor Programme, describing it as a vital initiative for promoting peace and addressing youth-related security challenges.
The assurance was given when the AIG received a high-powered delegation from the Safe Corridor Programme at the Zone One Headquarters in Kano. The delegation was led by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs and Coordinator of the Programme, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, alongside traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

During the visit, Comrade Waiya explained that the Safe Corridor Programme is a special intervention initiative of the Kano State Government aimed at tackling youth restiveness, political thuggery, and related social challenges through dialogue, rehabilitation, and community engagement rather than the use of force.
He emphasized that the success of the programme depends on strong collaboration among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and other stakeholders, while seeking the continued support of the Zone One Police Headquarters.
In his response, AIG Garba Ahmed commended the Kano State Government and the Safe Corridor team for the initiative, noting that preventive and community-based approaches are essential complements to conventional security operations.
The AIG further stressed that Kano’s strategic position as a major commercial hub makes peace and stability in the state crucial not only to its residents but also to the wider region. He expressed confidence that the programme would significantly contribute to reducing youth restiveness and curbing thuggery activities across the state.
He assured the delegation of the Zone’s maximum cooperation and support in line with the mandate of the Nigeria Police Force to promote peace, security, and public safety.
The Safe Corridor Programme is one of the Kano State Government’s key efforts aimed at fostering sustainable peace, social inclusion, and community development through stakeholder engagement and non-kinetic conflict resolution strategies.Brown Pigeon News Publications.
