AKCILS Marks Golden Jubilee with Grand Celebration
The Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS) has successfully concluded its 50th anniversary celebration with a colourful grand finale that attracted academics, dignitaries, and stakeholders from across the country.
Speaking at the event, the Provost of the College, Professor Balarabe Abubakar Jakada, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the institution’s achievements over the past five decades, describing AKCILS as a pioneer institution that combines Islamic jurisprudence with modern legal and academic education.
He highlighted major milestones recorded by the College, including the approval of 21 additional NCE programmes by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), bringing the total number of programmes to 52, alongside the upgrading of Diploma programmes in Civil and Shari’a Law to National Diploma status.
The Provost also revealed ongoing collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to facilitate direct entry into ND II for Ordinary Diploma holders in Law and Shari’a. He further noted significant infrastructural and administrative improvements, including the establishment of eight directorates and the expansion of the Centre for Continuing Education into a degree-awarding school affiliated with the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.
Representing the Kano State Governor, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, congratulated the College on its golden jubilee, describing AKCILS as a vital institution for educational and societal transformation.
The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the College for producing distinguished personalities and judicial officers who have contributed immensely to society over the years.
The celebration also featured goodwill messages from several tertiary institutions and the presentation of awards to notable individuals, including Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Professor Jakada, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, and philanthropist Alhaji Ibrahim Sabiu Linda, for their contributions to the growth and development of the College.
A newly completed building named after the Emir of Kano was also commissioned during the event.
