The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has established a Youth Council aimed at engaging youths associated with street violence and developing practical solutions to the persistent challenge of thuggery and youth-related conflicts across the state.
The initiative is designed to provide a structured platform for dialogue, reconciliation, mutual understanding and peaceful engagement between the government and affected youth groups.
According to the Commissioner, the council will work towards identifying the root causes of conflicts among young people and developing appropriate interventions capable of addressing the problem at the grassroots.
The council will be headed by Malam Abdullahi, who will coordinate its activities in collaboration with other appointed leaders and members.
To strengthen the initiative, various committees have also been constituted to address specific aspects of youth violence and thuggery.
The committees will focus on conflict resolution among youth groups, public enlightenment on the dangers and consequences of thuggery, early identification of potential conflicts, and collaboration with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders.
Speaking on the initiative, Commissioner Waiya said the Kano State Government was determined to strengthen peace and security across the state and would continue to explore innovative approaches to addressing challenges affecting young people.
He noted that youth violence and thuggery could have serious consequences for individuals, families and communities, stressing the need for collective action to prevent conflicts before they escalate.
Waiya assured the newly established council and its committees of the government’s support and cooperation in their efforts to develop sustainable solutions to the problem.
He urged young people across Kano State to embrace peace, unity and constructive engagement, while warning against activities capable of undermining public safety and community stability.
The Commissioner stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on strong cooperation among the government, youths, traditional and community leaders, security agencies and other stakeholders.
He expressed optimism that sustained dialogue, reconciliation, sensitisation and collaboration with young people would contribute significantly to finding lasting solutions to thuggery and youth violence and ultimately promote peace and security throughout Kano State.
