The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has urged Imams of Jumma’at Mosques across the state to use their positions to promote quality leadership and complement the efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf towards the development of Kano State.
Waiya made the call on Tuesday when members of the Forum of Imams of Jumma’at Mosques paid him a courtesy visit at his office.
The Commissioner said the people of Kano had continued to support the administration because of the Governor’s leadership qualities, stressing that the state needed a leadership style focused on serving the interests of the people rather than those of a few individuals.
He said it was time for citizens to take ownership of decisions concerning the future of the state by exercising their right to choose leaders capable of governing with determination, integrity and commitment to public service.
“Kano should not be ruled by a few people whose ambition is to enrich themselves rather than promote the progress and development of our dear state,” he said.
Waiya noted that Governor Yusuf had taken positive steps towards ensuring that citizens had a greater say in determining who governs them.
He further said the Governor’s decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was taken in the interest of the state, adding that significant achievements had been recorded since the defection.
The Commissioner therefore urged the Imams to use their Friday sermons to sensitise the public on the importance of supporting quality leadership as a means of achieving sustainable development and improving the welfare of citizens.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Forum of Imams of Jumma’at Mosques, Gwani Sani Tilo, said the forum comprised members from the Izala, Tijjaniyya and Qadiriyya movements who had united in support of the state government.
He highlighted some of the administration’s achievements, including the recently concluded mass wedding programme, as reasons for the forum’s continued support for the Governor.
