KANO – Stakeholders in the Kannywood film industry have declared their support for the re-election of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, ahead of the 2027 general elections, while pledging to promote government policies and programmes through their platforms.
The declaration was made during a courtesy visit by members of the Kannywood Political Coalition to the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Thursday.
Speaking during the meeting, Comrade Waiya reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with Kannywood practitioners, describing the industry as one of the most influential entertainment sectors in Northern Nigeria with the capacity to shape public opinion and support development initiatives.
He said the government would partner with industry stakeholders to use films, music, and drama to educate citizens on key issues, including health, education, security, and other government programmes.
The Commissioner encouraged members of the coalition to work towards expanding and professionalising the industry, assuring them of the government’s continued support to enable Kannywood compete effectively on the global stage.
Comrade Waiya commended the coalition for endorsing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s second-term ambition, describing the decision as a demonstration of their confidence in the Governor’s leadership and commitment to the development of Kano State.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, he said the government has recorded significant progress in healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, water supply, and youth and women empowerment across the state’s 44 local government areas.
According to him, the administration is currently implementing more than 1,550 projects across Kano State, with over 700 projects already completed, while the remaining are at various stages of completion.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Hamisu Lamido Iyan Tama, said the Kannywood Political Coalition was established to mobilise support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration and ensure his re-election in 2027.
He noted that although members of the coalition come from different political parties and backgrounds, they have united under one platform because of their belief in the Governor’s developmental achievements.
Hamisu Iyan Tama stated that the coalition is convinced Governor Yusuf deserves another term to consolidate on the progress already recorded across the state.
The coalition also pledged to utilise its platforms to promote government policies and mobilise wider public support for the administration ahead of future political engagements.
