Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for Cotonou to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Romuald Wadagni of the Republic of Benin.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou, where African leaders and other international dignitaries are expected to gather in solidarity with the West African nation.
The trip underscores the strong diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Benin, two neighbouring countries with deep historical, socio-cultural, and economic ties. Bilateral cooperation between both nations has continued to focus on border security, trade relations, regional stability, and energy collaboration.
