The Kano Patriotic Civil society Coalition Forum. (KPCF)
On behalf of 371 MemberOrganizations, wishes to commend the growing inclusion and nomination of women duringthe ongoing political parties’ candidate nomination and selection processes in Kano Stateahead of the 2027 General Elections. The KPCF particularly applauds the deliberate commitment and inclusive leadershipdemonstrated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in promoting women’s participation ingovernance and political processes.
His administration’s support for inclusive representationcontinues to inspire hope among women, youth, and vulnerable groups across Kano State.Today, Kano State has made history as, for the first time, a leading political party hasnominated a woman as a candidate for the State House of Assembly from theGhari/Tsanyawa constituency.
This remarkable development represents a significantmilestone in advancing inclusive governance, gender equality, and democratic participation inthe state.
The Forum believes that the increasing participation of women in politics represents asignificant milestone toward strengthening democracy, equity, and social justice. Womenremain critical stakeholders in nation-building, and their inclusion in leadership and decision-making processes will undoubtedly contribute to better governance and sustainabledevelopment. While celebrating this positive development, KPCF calls on all political parties in Kano Stateand across Nigeria to extend similar inclusion opportunities to Persons With Disabilities(PWDs) during party primaries and candidate selection processes for the forthcoming 2027General Elections. The Forum notes with concern that despite their constitutional rights and enormouscontributions to society, Persons With Disabilities continue to face exclusion and limitedrepresentation in political spaces. Political parties must therefore adopt deliberate affirmative Kano Patriotic CSOs Coalition Forum-PressRelease
measures that will guarantee fair participation and representation of PWDs at all levels of theelectoral process.KPCF strongly believes that inclusive political participation gives the voiceless theopportunity to voice their concerns, aspirations, and contributions toward nationaldevelopment. A democracy that accommodates women, PWDs, youth, and othermarginalized groups is more responsive, accountable, and sustainable. The Forum therefore urges:
1.Political parties to institutionalize inclusive policies that support women and PWDparticipation.
2.Stakeholders to ensure transparent and non-discriminatory candidate selectionprocesses.
3.Government institutions and civil society organizations to intensify advocacy forinclusive governance.
4.Citizens to support credible and competent candidates irrespective of gender orphysical condition.KPCF reiterates its commitment to promoting inclusive democracy, social justice, and equalpolitical participation for all citizens.
