The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared his support for former Commissioner of Works, Mustapha Gubio, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was confirmed on Tuesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, who stated that Gubio possesses the experience and leadership qualities required to sustain the developmental strides recorded under the current administration.
According to Iliya, the endorsement reflects Governor Zulum’s confidence in Gubio’s capacity to consolidate ongoing infrastructure and socio-economic reforms across the state.
Gubio, who previously served as Commissioner for Works, is widely credited with overseeing key infrastructure projects, including road construction and urban development initiatives aimed at rebuilding communities affected by insurgency.
Political observers note that the endorsement could significantly shape the dynamics of the 2027 elections in Borno, as succession planning gradually takes center stage within the state’s political landscape.
Further developments are expected as stakeholders within the ruling party and across the state respond to the governor’s position.
