The Kano State Taskforce Committee on Mobilization of Voter Registration Exercise, chaired by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has intensified efforts to enhance citizens’ participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise through a statewide monitoring and public enlightenment campaign.
As part of this initiative, the Taskforce’s Subcommittee on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Political Parties, led by its Chairman, Mustapha Muhammad Chiroma, conducted an inspection and monitoring visit to voter registration centres in selected Local Government Areas of the state.
The monitoring team visited registration centres at Beraye Primary School Registration Centre, Kofar Ruwa, Dala LGA; Gawuna Ward, Nassarawa LGA; Warawa Ward, Warawa LGA; and GGSS Sabon Gari, Wudil LGA.
Speaking after the tour, Chiroma expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the registration exercise, describing the process as orderly, peaceful, transparent, and efficient across all the centres visited.
He commended His Excellency, Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for providing the necessary support, logistics, and facilities that have contributed to the smooth implementation of the exercise across the state.
Chiroma also applauded residents who turned out in large numbers to register, noting that the encouraging turnout reflects growing public awareness of the importance of voter registration and active participation in the democratic process.
According to him, voter registration remains a fundamental pillar of democracy, as it empowers citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote and actively contribute to the selection of leaders and the governance of the country.
He therefore urged all eligible residents who have not yet registered to take advantage of the ongoing exercise, emphasizing that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains the only legal instrument through which citizens can participate in elections.
The Chairman further disclosed that observations and findings from the monitoring exercise would be documented and submitted to the State Taskforce Committee on Mobilization of Voter Registration, under the leadership of Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for necessary action, policy guidance, and continuous improvement of the voter mobilization process.
He reiterated the commitment of the Taskforce Committee to supporting initiatives aimed at increasing voter awareness, promoting civic responsibility, and ensuring wider participation in the electoral process across Kano State.
The monitoring exercise forms part of the Kano State Government’s broader strategy to improve voter registration rates, strengthen democratic participation, and encourage citizens’ engagement in governance ahead of future elections.
The Local Government Areas covered during the monitoring exercise include Dala, Nassarawa, Warawa, and Wudil.
