
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Narendra Modi on attaining the historic milestone of becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in the history of India.
In a statement issued from the Presidential Villa in Abuja on June 9, 2026, President Tinubu described the achievement as a reflection of the enduring confidence and trust the Indian people have placed in Modi’s leadership across three consecutive mandates.
The Nigerian leader praised Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to public service, commitment to national development, and influential role on the global stage, noting that his leadership continues to inspire millions around the world.

President Tinubu also highlighted the cordial relationship between the two leaders, describing Modi as a personal friend and trusted ally. He said he deeply admires the Indian Prime Minister’s wisdom, courage, and unwavering commitment to the progress and prosperity of his country.
The President further acknowledged Modi’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and India, noting that the Indian leader is a distinguished recipient of Nigeria’s national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, President Tinubu wished Prime Minister Modi continued good health, wisdom, and success as he continues to lead India.
