
The Jigawa State College of Education (JSCOE), Gumel, honoured the chairmen of Birnin Kudu, Gagarawa and Roni Local Government Areas for sponsoring 405 students to pursue National Certificate in Education (NCE) and undergraduate programmes at the institution.
The recognition ceremony, held at the college’s conference hall, celebrated the contributions of the three council chairmen towards promoting access to higher education in their respective local government areas.
Speaking at the event, the Provost of the college, Dr. Nura Muhammed, said the awards were in appreciation of the chairmen’s commitment to educational development through the sponsorship of students.
He commended their foresight, generosity and dedication to human capital development, urging other local government chairmen in the state to emulate the gesture.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Higher Education, Abubakar Muhammad Sa’id, praised the council chairmen for their support to education, noting that their efforts could attract further recognition from the Assembly’s higher education committee.
In a lecture delivered at the event, Hajiya Halima Isyaku described education as the foundation of societal development and a vital tool for promoting unity and progress.
Responding on behalf of the award recipients, the Chairman of Birnin Kudu Local Government, Muhammad Uba; his Gagarawa counterpart, Abubakar Idris; and the Chairman of Roni Local Government, Dr. Abba Ya’u, expressed gratitude to the college management for the honour.
They pledged to sustain the tempo aimed at improving the welfare of their people and delivering the dividends of democracy through educational support programmes.
In a goodwill message, the Emir of Gumel, Ahmed Muhammad Sani, congratulated the award recipients and encouraged the beneficiary students to make good use of the opportunity to secure a brighter future.
