Following the launch of the 2026 Statewide Drainage Clearance Exercise last week, which covers key locations including Madobi Underpass, Jakara–Kwarin Gogau, and Baban Gwari, the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change has commenced the distribution of specialized desilting equipment to registered self-help groups across the state.
The initiative is aimed at empowering local communities to undertake minor drainage clearance activities within their neighborhoods, complementing the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to clear major drainage channels and waterways.

According to the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, the rollout of the equipment will strengthen community participation in environmental sanitation and help reduce the risk of urban flooding during the rainy season.
Residents have been encouraged to cooperate with the designated self-help groups and support ongoing clearance operations in their respective communities. The Ministry emphasized that proactive community involvement remains critical to maintaining free-flowing drainage systems, safeguarding lives and property, and promoting a cleaner environment.
The names and contact details of the registered self-help groups have been made available by the Ministry to facilitate coordination between residents and the groups responsible for drainage clearance activities.
