SOKOTO — Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has presided over the wedding Fatiha of ten couples in Sokoto, standing in for their families to formally give out the brides in marriage.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on April 26, 2026, by the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa.
The marriages were solemnised by the Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Sheikh Yahaya Na Malam Boyi, following the payment of bride prices in accordance with Islamic rites.
The ceremony took place at the residence of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, a former governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. The event drew prominent political figures, traditional rulers, clerics, and well-wishers.
Among dignitaries who represented the grooms were the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi; the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo; the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga; and former Deputy Governor, Mukhtar Shagari.
Addressing the newlyweds, Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of patience and tolerance as the foundation of a successful marriage.
“I want these new couples to understand that the secret of any successful marriage is patience and tolerance,” he said.
He also cautioned against third-party interference in marital disputes, urging couples to resolve their differences through mutual dialogue and understanding.
The governor concluded with prayers for divine blessings on the unions, wishing the couples peaceful and successful married lives.
