The Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to host the national flag-off and North West deployment of the “Energize Commercialisation Now” initiative, a flagship programme of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology.
The high-profile event is scheduled to take place on April 23, 2026, in Kano, drawing key stakeholders from across government, industry, and the innovation ecosystem.
The initiative, aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of research outputs and boosting innovation-driven enterprise in Nigeria, will be led and supported by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu.
According to organisers, the programme is designed to bridge the gap between research and market application, providing a platform for innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors to collaborate and transform ideas into viable economic solutions.
Kano’s selection as host for the North West deployment underscores the state’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation, commerce, and strategic development in northern Nigeria.
Government officials say the presence of top federal authorities and development partners at the event highlights the significance of the initiative in driving Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda.
Residents, entrepreneurs, academics, and members of the public have been invited to attend the historic occasion, which is expected to mark a major milestone in the promotion of science, technology, and innovation across the region.
Observers note that the programme aligns with broader national efforts to harness local talent and research capacity for sustainable economic growth, while positioning Nigeria competitively in the global innovation landscape.
The event is anticipated to attract widespread participation, as stakeholders converge in Kano to witness what many describe as a defining moment in the country’s innovation and commercialisation drive.
