The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects and commitments worth over N310 billion aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing, and other key sectors across Kano State.

The approvals were reached during the 38th Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Council Chamber of the Government House Kano. The outcome of the meeting was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

According to the statement, the council deliberated extensively on key governance and development issues before approving projects totaling N310,266,203,046, covering multiple sectors of the state economy.

In the education sector, the council approved N238.02 million for the purchase of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) UTME forms for eligible candidates across the state. It also approved funds for the rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School Hotoro South in Nassarawa Local Government Area and renovation works at schools in Bagwai Local Government Area. Additional approvals included payments for boarding school feeding suppliers, procurement of textbooks for students in the 44 local government areas, construction of a nomadic school in Dambatta Local Government Area, and renovation of schools in the Kofar Nassarawa area.

Under the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, several projects were approved to improve public facilities and road networks. These include renovation works at the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters, completion of a Juma’at Mosque in Nassarawa LGA, additional works at the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, maintenance of the Rimin Auzinawa Road in Ungoggo Local Government Area, and construction of the Ladanai road network. The council also approved N13.2 billion for the implementation of the 2026 constituency projects across the state and additional works on the renovation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

Other major approvals include the rehabilitation of the road linking Gidan Malam Aminu Kano through Tal’udu, Gadon Kaya, Yahaya Gusau and Sharada, as well as the reconstruction of Race Course Extension to Audu Bako Way and adjoining roads in Nassarawa Local Government Area.

In the rural development sector, the council approved the construction of feeder roads and rural access routes in several local government areas, including Gezawa Local Government Area, Bichi Local Government Area, Garko Local Government Area and Takai Local Government Area to improve connectivity and economic activities in rural communities.

The council also approved funds for settlement of electricity bills owed to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for five major water treatment plants in the state. In the health sector, approvals were granted for the procurement of dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre and dental equipment for healthcare facilities.

In a major housing initiative, the council approved over N113 billion for the construction of a 480-unit mass housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan, tagged Gida Gida Mega City, under the Ministry of Housing Development. It also approved the establishment of an Emergency Operations Management Centre at the Government House.

Other approvals include compensation payments for households affected by the proposed 330KVA transmission line project by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, construction of drainage at Kurna Asabe in Dala Local Government Area, production of 10 million seedlings for the 2026 tree planting campaign, extension of a high tension line along Bunkure Road, and N1.34 billion for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme.

In the area of policy decisions, the council approved the award of contract for the construction of AKK Industrial Parks, repair of vehicles under the Girl Child Initiative, and the implementation of a mass vaccination exercise for sheep and goats across the 44 local government areas.

The council also approved the amendment of the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board Law 2014 and the Kano State Electricity Bill 2026, both to be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative action.

The council further noted the resumption of operations at the Tiga 2MW + 8MW power plant after years of inactivity and acknowledged a presentation made by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, to the council chairman.

The approvals and policy decisions, according to the government, demonstrate the commitment of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to sustainable development, improved service delivery and the wellbeing of residents of Kano State
