2027: IDAF Backs Abba for Second Term, Names Waiya Grand Patron

By Abdu Saidu

The APC Intellectual Door-to-Door Awareness and Mobilisation Forum (IDAF) has endorsed the re-election of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for a second term, pledging to take its mobilisation campaign to communities across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The forum announced its support on Tuesday when its leadership paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

The group also appointed Waiya as its Grand Patron, citing his experience in public communication and information management.

Speaking during the visit, IDAF Chairman, Comrade Salisu Alhassan Dantata, said the forum decided to support the governor because of the need to ensure that citizens were adequately informed about government policies, programmes and projects.

“Our decision to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is based on our conviction that the people should be adequately informed about the policies, programmes and projects of the government,” Dantata said.

He said the forum would deploy its members across communities to engage residents and explain the administration’s programmes under the Kano First agenda.

“We are prepared to go from door to door and from community to community to enlighten the people on what the government is doing and encourage constructive participation in the development of Kano State,” he said.

Dantata said IDAF would also work to strengthen communication between the government and citizens by taking relevant information directly to communities.

He described grassroots engagement as critical to effective governance, adding that the forum would use its networks and expertise to promote public enlightenment and constructive participation.

On the appointment of Waiya as Grand Patron, Dantata said the decision was based on the commissioner’s role in advancing public communication and engagement.

“We are pleased to appoint Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya as our Grand Patron. We believe his experience in public communication will further strengthen our efforts to reach the people,” he said.

Responding, Waiya commended the leadership and members of IDAF for their initiative and commitment to public enlightenment.

“I appreciate the leadership and members of the APC Intellectual Door-to-Door Awareness and Mobilisation Forum for this initiative and for recognising the importance of grassroots engagement,” he said.

The commissioner said effective communication was essential to ensuring that citizens understood government policies and programmes.

“Government policies and programmes can only achieve their desired impact when the people are adequately informed and understand how they affect their lives,” Waiya said.

He urged the forum to maintain responsible and constructive communication in its engagements with communities and assured it of the state government’s readiness to work with stakeholders committed to promoting public awareness.

“Grassroots mobilisation and constructive engagement are important to the success of any development agenda. We must continue to engage our people and communicate with them responsibly,” he said.

Waiya also called for peaceful and constructive political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting focused on strengthening grassroots engagement, public enlightenment and communication on government programmes across Kano State.

IDAF comprises members drawn from academia, grassroots and community engagement sectors. The forum says it was established to promote intellectual engagement, public awareness, grassroots mobilisation and constructive participation in governance and development.
