KANO GOVT MOVES TO REVIVE TRIUMPH NEWSPAPER, RESTORE FULL PRINT PUBLICATION

The Kano State Government has commenced moves to revive Triumph Publishing Company and restore the newspaper to full-scale print publication through the rehabilitation of its facilities and provision of modern printing equipment.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated this when he led the Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Member representing Ungoggo Local Government, Hon. Sa’ad Aminu Ungoggo, on an inspection visit to Triumph Publishing Company in Kano.

Speaking during the inspection, Comrade Waiya described Triumph Publishing Company as one of the oldest surviving state-owned newspaper organisations in the country, established during the administration of the late Alhaji Abubakar Rimi.

He explained that the visit was aimed at enabling the House Committee on Information to assess the condition of the company and identify areas requiring urgent government intervention.

The Commissioner noted that Triumph, which once played a significant role in journalism and information dissemination in Kano and beyond, is currently operating on a skeletal basis, with its activities largely limited to online publication.

He stressed the need to revive the organisation and restore its capacity to publish newspapers in print through the rehabilitation of its facilities and provision of modern printing equipment.

According to him, the revival of Triumph Publishing Company is important not only because of its historical significance but also because of its role in preserving Kano State’s rich journalistic heritage and providing credible information to the public.

Comrade Waiya said the Ministry would continue to work with the House Committee on Information to complement the efforts of the State Government towards repositioning the company and restoring its lost glory.

He urged the staff of Triumph Publishing Company to rededicate themselves to their duties, embrace modern methods of journalism and remain open to changes required to meet contemporary professional standards.

The Commissioner also assured the staff that the State Government would support training and retraining programmes aimed at strengthening their professional capacity and preparing them for the demands of modern journalism.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Sa’ad Aminu Ungoggo, said the committee visited Triumph Publishing Company to assess its condition and identify areas requiring government intervention to revive the organisation.

He said the committee would work closely with the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs to ensure that Triumph receives the necessary attention, particularly in the areas of rehabilitation, provision of modern printing equipment and improvement of working facilities.

Hon. Sa’ad Aminu stressed the importance of equipping government-owned media organisations with modern facilities, noting that contemporary working materials are essential for effective operations and compliance with global professional standards.

Conducting the Commissioner and committee members round the company, the Acting Managing Director of Triumph Publishing Company, Alhaji Hamisu, explained the condition of the organisation and highlighted the challenges affecting its full operation.

He commended the Commissioner and the House Committee for visiting the company and demonstrating commitment towards securing government intervention for its rehabilitation and revival.

Alhaji Hamisu expressed optimism that the inspection would lead to concrete measures that would enable Triumph Publishing Company to resume full newspaper production and regain its position as a major media organisation in Kano State.
