The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to building an intelligence-driven and technology-enabled defence system aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
Speaking after touring the Research and Development Exhibition during the grand finale of the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026, General Musa described the exhibition as a strong indication that the Nigerian military is making significant progress toward technological self-reliance and operational excellence.
The Chief of Defence Staff inspected the exhibition alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, and 16 Chiefs of Army from across Africa. He commended the impressive display of indigenous military innovations, advanced technologies and force-support solutions developed to enhance the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Army.
According to him, the locally developed technologies and research outcomes demonstrate the Armed Forces’ growing capacity to leverage innovation, data-driven solutions and homegrown expertise as force multipliers in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
General Musa noted that the emerging capabilities would significantly improve the military’s ability to detect, deter and respond effectively to terrorism, insurgency, banditry and other security threats, while providing troops with modern technological advantages on the battlefield.
He further praised the Nigerian Army Headquarters for placing innovation at the centre of its transformation agenda, describing the indigenous solutions as evidence of the creativity and resilience of Nigerians.
The Defence Chief expressed confidence that continued investment in research, development and technology would strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities and support lasting peace, stability and national security.
