The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been named Financial Architect Governor of the Year 2026 by Daily Independent Newspaper, after emerging top among several nominees.
The announcement was made by the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Steve Omanufeme, who disclosed that the selection process was rigorous and conducted in three stages.
According to Omanufeme, Governor Yusuf’s emergence followed a combination of public voting, assessment by a panel of judges, and final approval by the newspaper’s Board of Editors. The award was presented during the grand finale of the organisation’s golden jubilee celebration held in Lagos.
The honour was received on behalf of the governor by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, at a ceremony held at Eko Hotel and Suites.
The newspaper stated that the award recognises Governor Yusuf’s financial prudence and fiscal discipline, which it said have driven significant improvements in the state’s internally generated revenue. Kano’s revenue reportedly rose from between N37 billion and N40 billion in 2023 to over N100 billion by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
It further noted that the administration’s performance reflects a consistent commitment to transparency, efficient resource management, and the execution of impactful infrastructure projects across the state.
Observers say the recognition underscores growing public confidence in the governor’s handling of public finances and his broader economic reforms.
