Kano Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Compensation for Edo Incident Victims
The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting families affected by last year’s tragic incident in Edo State, assuring that efforts to secure due compensation are steadily progressing.
This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, during a condolence visit by a government delegation to the Bunkure Palace in Kano.
According to the Commissioner, the visit was part of the government’s continued efforts to sympathise with the families of those who lost their lives while returning home for the Sallah celebration. He emphasized that the Kano State Government is actively engaging with its Edo State counterpart to ensure that appropriate compensation is provided to the victims and their families.
Waiya recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier approved immediate relief measures for the affected families. He stated that families of the 16 deceased victims received N300,000 each, while 13 survivors who sustained injuries were given N200,000 each. In addition, all beneficiaries were provided with two bags of rice.
He noted that the intervention underscores the administration’s commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by the victims’ families, particularly following initial delays caused by some officials.
The Commissioner further urged the affected families to remain patient, assuring them that the government remains dedicated to their welfare, including continued support for the children of the deceased.
In his response, the District Head of Bunkure, Aminu Isah Umar, expressed deep appreciation to the Kano State Government for its timely intervention. He noted that the assistance would significantly ease the burden on the affected families and help cushion the impact of their loss.
